Dardan Security Infographic Design

Dardan Security’s Commercial Director approached me to create artwork that reflected Dardan’s company achievements. I was given six key facts about the company and its operations with the task of turning these facts into visually appealing and engaging graphics. The purpose of the artwork, which were to be displayed on the walls of their Cambridge headquarters, is aimed to educate and motivate employees and visitors.

Taking into account Dardan’s existing branding guidelines my original vision was to use a red background and the design artwork work in white but due to the constraints of the office agreements the walls had to remain white. This opened up the use of grayscale elements that complimented the red of Dardans brand colour as using black would be too overpowering. Knowing that the graphic elements had to be visually engaging, I ensured each design was relevant to the information in the chosen fact.

Starting with locations, I used interconnecting dots of different sizes to create the shape of a locator pin. The different sizes dots represent the projects of various sizes that Dardan works with. The reason for them interconnecting is to reflect the sense of community and network. Next was the date company was started, I wanted this to stand out and be relatively simple as a bold and poignant fact. I used a simplified calendar shape as this made this object relatable as the symbol is similarly used for dates and calendars in smart devices. Using an octagon shape as a sign of warning for the next design along with a simplified alarm is aimed to show that when there is a security incident, it has to be stopped.

With the use of a generic shape of a person, I wanted to create a sense of unity with the employees’ fact. The use of three different circles of varying colours represented the various levels of employment from upper management to other employment roles all working together as one.  The vehicles fact uses Dardans most popular vehicle form a head on perspective to ensure both head lamps are visual due the the nature of the fact being night time patrol and that patrols are carried out in their vans. The last fact was the hours of guarding Dardan has each month. Naturally I was drawn to a clock face. I wanted the clock face to have detail to give a sense of the time scale. I also wanted it to compliment the employees fact visually.

Once everything was designed I placed them in positions to combine and compliment each other, therefore, I opted for symmetry to give the designs a purpose and a more visual appeal.
